The 900 mm x 445 mm Product Shape in this Modular Shape Group dates back a quarter of a century, when "slabs" measuring 3 ft x 1 ft 62 inches in were first adopted by the Cape Town Municipality for pedestrian walkways in some of the older parts of the CBD.

Traditionally, accompanying units were 450 mm x 450 mm and 450 mm x 225 mm. However, this meant having to use very wide grouting joints to lessen the visual discrepancy produced by the lack of modularity.

We have eliminated this problem by creating Product Shape sizes of 445 mm x 445 mm and 445 mm x 217 mm instead.
